March 15, 2008:
An overflow crowd showed up at The Celebration at 1:00PM Saturday, March15 for our (sometimes) regular funcheon meeting.  The overflow came from more folks than expected and we had to re-arrange the tables and wound up extending an extra table out into the restaurant proper.  What a pleasant predicament in which to find ourselves.  We had about 34 folks show up, some seldom seen at these meetings and others never seen before at one of our "regular" meetings.  It certainly was a pleasure to see so many folks at one time.  We agreed to make our next meeting at Pat Doak's again for our annual picnic in June, date and time to be announced.  With Helyn and I both taking pictures, there are a bunch to see here .
June 7, 2008:
For the 3rd year in a row the Doaks hosted our annual picnic.  We finally got Denese to come out on a summer day and it was the warmest in 3 years!  So warm that it was a little too much for Yvonne Minshew, who caused quite a stir among the late lingerers when she fainted, apparently from the heat.  Lewis and the rest of us were extremely alarmed and called the EMTs.  She was alert and responsive by the time they arrived, and seemed to be okay; but she gave us all quite a scare!  Before that, we had the usual good time and good food and fellowship.  Thanks to the Doaks for being such good hosts!  For some pics, click here .
Sept. 13, 2008:
On the day that Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston and caused massive damage in all southeast Texas, 21 brave souls ventured out in what was forecast to be a stormy day in Big D.  Shucks, we didn't even hardly get wet!  We did have our usual fun and fellowship, tho' and we had an attendee for the first time when Georgina (Crisp) Grigg showed up.  If you missed being there, you can see a pic of her in Then and Now. For some pics click here.

Dec. 6, 2008:
We had our annual Christmas party meeting at Cantina Laredo in Inwood Village.  A brief business meetin for the purpose of presenting the Nominating Committee's proposed slate of officers for the coming biennial term.  Chairman Duane Starkey presented the slate as follows: President, Kent Pollard; 1st VP, Jerry Smith; 2nd VP, Lewis Minshew; Secretary, Shirley Young Sutton; Treasurer, Duane Starkey.  The annual meeting and election of officers will be held at El Fenix downtown on Jan. 17, 2009.  After the meeting we played some trivia games and enjoyed our usual measure of good fellowship and fun,  With Duane, Densese, and I all taking pictures there is an extra measure of pictures to feast your eyes on if you click here.
